The Marine Corps University was established to develop, deliver, and evaluate professional military education and training through resident and distance education programs to prepare leaders to meet the challenges of the national security environment. Graduates are prepared to perform with increased effectiveness in service, joint, interagency, intergovernmental and multinational environments at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war, across the range of military operations. Marine Corps War College prepares officers to assume senior positions of increasingly complex responsibility associated with the application of maritime expeditionary warfare, Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations, joint and multinational warfare concepts, national military strategy, the elements of national power, and national security strategy.
The School of Advanced Warfighting provides a follow-on, graduate-level professional military education for selected field grade officers who have completed the Marine Corps or sister service command and staff college course. The course develops complex problem solving and decision making skills that can be used to improve the warfighting capabilities of an organization at the operational level of war.
Command and Staff College provides intermediate level professional military education required to function in command and staff assignments with joint, combined service and other high level military organizations to field grade officers of the Marine Corps, other services and officers from selected foreign countries.
Expeditionary Warfare Schoolis a nine-month course providing career-level professional military education, with emphasis on combined arms operations, warfighting skills, tactical decision-making, and Marine Air Ground Task Forces in amphibious operations.
Enlisted Professional Military Education provides a continuum of education to improve leadership, sharpen critical thinking skills, and deepen Marines’ understanding of warfighting concepts in distributed and joint environments.
The College of Distance Education and Training (CDET) is the organization within the Marine Corps Education Command (EDCOM) with the mission to design, develop, deliver, evaluate, manage, and resource distance learning products and programs across the Marine Corps training and education continuum in order to increase operational readiness.
